Deal: FREE fry day Friday March 4th

Monday, February 28th, 2011

Anyone who knows anything about me knows I la la Love me some Chick Fil A. The yummy waffle fries and delicious nuggets have me at “it’s my pleasure”. It’s a major weakness, but having friends (and hubby) with this addition also, makes for a fun lunch any day of the week.

They are offering FREE FRIES between 2pm+4pm Friday, no purchase necessary just say your there to try the new ‘Heninz Dip &  Squeeze’, see details HERE.

Tips for saving at Chick Fil A:

No.1 Order the 6 piece kids meal instead of an adult meal, it’s around $4 (prices differ slightly with location), and instead of getting the toy, upgrade to a medium drink at no extra cost. Most locations are more than happy to do this with a smile!

No.2 Always look at your receipt, there’s frequently a survey option on there. Go online fill out quick survey, and get code. The code is redeemable for any sandwich or a 4 piece kids me (I ususlly pay a little extra and upgrade to 6 piece).

No.3 Ask if they have frequent diner cards, many locations have their own variations of this.

No.4Ask if there’s a kids night. The Sandy Utah location has one every Wednesday night, they give a free kids meal with every adult meal, plus there’s usually a free activity for kids, like face painting or a puzzle or something of that nature.

Chick Fil A is one of those companies who just has it together, they make their customers very happy, but be careful…you might get hooked!

White Type

Friday, February 25th, 2011

Minted just released their 2011 wedding collection and I’m kinda loving it.  Invitations seem to have been reinvented the past couple of years, with a much bigger variety to choose from; the couple can really use this opportunity to let their individual style shine. I’m loving the look of white text, it really adds a wow factor and a touch of modern in a classical setting. Take a peek:

Decor: Nautical Bathroom

English Cornishware pic via

I have been eyeing so much navy blue and white at the shops lately, like the white and blue collection at Target.  It makes me crave the salty ocean so much!  Hopefully next month we’ll get to the ocean for Spring Break, but for now I am thinking of bringing some nautical into my bathroom.  That’s right, I’m thinking color!  Only navy blue though…nothing too crazy!!

Some things I’ve seen recently that I am considering for the bathroom:

This little light from the Home Depot:

Hampton Bay Light $4.97

This doormat from the World Market would be cute as a bathmat:

Braided mat $14.99

I saw these luxurious, ridiculously expensive towels at Anthropologie.

The Navy blue color is beautiful and about half off in stores right now!

Perpetual Bloom Bath Towel in Navy $19.99

I could use this Target shower curtain we received as a wedding present:

White Waffle Shower Curtain $26.99

I saw some lanterns at Home Goods on clearance for $9 that looked like these ones from Restoration Hardware:

Pretty Lanterns

It would be perfect to find an inexpensive stripy blue rug somewhere, like this one from Amazon:

(Has anyone seen one anywhere?)

Nautical Rug

I could keep the chrome clocks and the picnic baskets that I posted about to add to the nautical feel..

I know what I’m going to be dreaming of tonight!

These Boots are Made for Walking…

Tuesday, February 22nd, 2011

There’s a long list of  things that scream “British”, and the Hunter wellies are ranked high on that list. They’ve famously been worn by: soldiers, farmers, royalty, and supermodels. They truly are the boot for anyone and everyone.

Naturally, my sistas and I were each given a pair a Christmas or two ago from our mum. Helen’s are black, mine are navy blue, and Emily’s are hunter green. Usually retailing at over $100, two of the three pairs were found at a discount store for $25…can I hear a whoot  whoot?!

Hels Bells, we missed you this weekend…we need a pic with all three of us sporting these beauties!

I’m not kidding when I say these boots make me feel like Superwoman; as soon as I slip into these babies I feel invincible; hell or high water can’t get in my way!

Happy Presidents Day!

Monday, February 21st, 2011

While studying at BYU somebody asked me what non-major class I enjoyed the most while earning my degree. My answer was surprising even to myself: American Heritage. Being a proud and very patriotic Brit, I wouldn’t have suspected that I’d love  American history so much, but the more I learned about the founding fathers (in particular, George Washington), and the miracle of how this country began, the more fascinated and engaged I became.

Painting by Arnold Friberg

Over the past couple of years Brock and I have been able to visit a couple of historical sites on the East Coast. Here I am at Independence Hall soaking up the history and loving it!

If you guys haven’t seen the HBO series John Adams yet, I highly recommend it. It’s very well done, and takes you on a fantastic journey of another great president.

I hope you guys had a great Presidents Day, and hopefully time off to enjoy it!

Gift Idea: Reuseable Coffee Cup

Friday, February 18th, 2011

Does anyone else find it so hard to brace the cold, windy, dark mornings?  I find them a little easier with a hot drink in tow.  I am loving the eco-friendly reusable coffee mug.  This one from Shopko is reduced to only $4.99!  Old Navy is claiming to have “the best” mugs right now with all sorts of different colors to choose from, in stores only for $5.  This could be a perfect present for the early birds in your life, and adding a few sachets of their favorite drink will make it extra personal and special.  How cute would this be for the early morning gym go-er or the moms in the carpool?!

Vaseline: a beauty product for any budget

Thursday, February 17th, 2011

There are few products that can live up to being reliable, versatile and cheap. Vaseline just celebrated it’s 140th birthday a couple of months ago, ensuring it’s legacy as an american classic.

Across the pond it is sold in little tins which are a perfect fit for any purse, but regardless on how it’s packaged it does wonders for chapped lips, and rough dry skin. I’ve also heard of it preventing stretch marks, used as makeup remover and eye lash thickener. Do you have a vaseline beauty secret?

Entryway Organization

Tuesday, February 15th, 2011

pottery barn

I am looking to re-do my Entry.  As the first thing you and others see when walking into your home it is pretty crucial to keep this area organized, neat and pretty all at the same time.  Having very minimal space as always a dilemma and rules out what I would really like (pic above).

Things I like about my entrance:

1) The dish we keep our keys in right next to the door, we never lose them!

2)  Having a lamp to reach for as you walk into the dark, instead of flipping on the flourescent light!

3)  The little chest of drawers to put our gloves, hats, extra keys etc. (takes up hardly any space).

Things that aren’t working and would like to improve:

1)  A place for shoes.

2)  A more welcoming atmosphere.

I would love your help with this project.  What do you use to keep your entry organized?  Hooks, cubbies, shelves?  What do think is inviting when you enter a home?

Valentine’s Dinner 2011

Monday, February 14th, 2011

In England, Valentine’s Day is reserved for only those in a ‘relationship’, and that’s how we’ve always celebrated it. However, last year it fell on a Sunday so we decided to make our weekly Sunday dinner with the family a little more festive, by making little valentine’s for one another.

It was so lovely that we did it again this year. Mum brought us all the best bars of Lindt chocolate, Emily made doubly delicious chocolate dipped strawberries, I made ‘love songs’ mix cd’s, and the kiddies made us each a card + craft.

But the star of the show was our host Kimberly, she not only made a yummy scrummy dinner but gave us the prettiest gifts, carnations for the ladies, and dipped pretzels + pistachios for the gents.

I do love all holidays, but those with the least expectations seem to take the cake!
happy love day to you all xoxo

Deal: Valentine’s Top

Friday, February 11th, 2011

Just browsing and found this ADORABLE top for Valentine’s at Forever 21.

For only $10.99, I think it would be perfect for Valentine’s paired with a cardi and skinny’s.

Valentine Eye Candy

Friday, February 11th, 2011

My love of pink kind of had to be put on the back burner when I said “I do,” that’s part of the deal right?  The new issue of House Beautiful has me dreaming of pink again, just in time for Valentine’s.  My favorite “clippings”:

Maybe a little more subtle hint of my favorite color would make the hubby a little happier:

Valentines Gifts for the Mr.

Thursday, February 10th, 2011

It’s always a little tricky to figure out what to get ‘The Mr’ at this time of year. We don’t go crazy since his birthday is in December and mine in February, so we’re a little over the present thing when v-day comes around. I always love getting a bunch of flowers and a night out, so for him I just try and think of something cute and festive. Here are a couple of ideas we sista’s came up with for our hubbies, most under $5 if you shop at the right time!

1. Jar of candy, most men still have the palate of a little boy…so treat him as such! Costco bulk candy is the most cost effective.

2. A game to go with above. This version of the classic jenya game was found at target for $3 on sale. It’s fun to customize into a truth or dare version, be as naughty or nice as you’d like! Simply print out some questions and glue onto wooden pieces.

3. Jammies + smellies are always a treat. These pj’s were $5 at old navy on black friday, again shop way ahead of time for most bang for buck. The mini cologne is from banana republic 2 for $15 right now.

4. A classy photo frame fit for any office. I always keep my eye out for frames at target, as they seem to go on clearance quite often. If you see a deal, and it’s simple and classic…get it, they always make great gifts later on.

5. Last but not least a mix CD, who doesn’t love a good ol’ sappy love song?! Great for in the car on the way to dinner.

our playlist this year:

come what may: nicole Kidman + ewan mcgregor
i love how you love me: camera obscura
who knows how long i’ve loved you: paul mccartney
woman: john lennon
a kiss to build a dream on: louis armstrong
at last: etta james
no other love: chuck prophet
i only have eyes for you: the flamingos
lucky: jason mraz + colbie caillat
all my life: linda ronstadt
dream a little dream of me: the mamas and the papas

Storage Solutions for Tiny Spaces: Bathroom

Tuesday, February 8th, 2011

The bathroom in our apartment is pretty bare bones.  I was worried about storage when we were looking at the apartment due to the fact that there isn’t even a vanity or a hand towel rail.  Let’s just say we didn’t move here for the luxury double bath.  Haha.  Here are some before pics, minus the dried blood that was splattered on the walls, no joke!

With a few little additions the bathroom is totally do-able.  In fact it’s my second favorite room in the house because it’s so cozy and warm.

Problems I was presented with:  Trying not to put holes in the walls, and a tight budget, boo!  I am pretty pleased with the results due to those restrictions.

Firstly, I made use of the ghetto medicine cabinet, that now I like to call ‘vintage’ :)  Only items that we use every day are allowed to be housed here.  The adjustable shelves made it easy to maximize the little space.

Secondly, Brad found these pretty picnic baskets at the thrift store for $5.  He thought I would like them and that they could help us with the storage situation.  Did I pick a keeper or what?!  These baskets house extra bathroom items, hand towels, cleaning supplies etc.  They fit perfectly under the sink and double as a towel rail.

I added a few glamorous accessories and I was done:  This gorgeous, ruffled shower curtain that my sis-in-law, Kimberly made us for a wedding present, two $6 clearance chrome clocks from Walmart, a cozy $7 rug from Target, and a few candles.

Not too shabby for an under $30 make-over.  Although, I am eye-ing some new additions… waiting for them to go on sale.  I’ll keep you posted :)

Twig & Thistle: Valentine’s DIY

Friday, February 4th, 2011

I absolutely love the blog Twig & Thistle, they’re always a great ‘go-to’ place to see great design, and lovely ideas.Last year I printed off these adorable little bags, and filled with brownies for our family Valentine’s day dinner. They were a big hit, and really helped made the day all the more festive.

I’m just loving these fruit stickers they’ve done for this year. Such a sweet way to add a pinch of Valentine’s to any packed lunch.

Valentine’s Decor

Thursday, February 3rd, 2011

Every time I see this cute heart on my desk, I get so excited for Valentine’s Day!  I decided to leave up my Christmas garland and just tweak it a little for Valentine’s.  I removed stockings as well as all the gold and white decorations and added lots of red baubles, ribbon and hearts that I found for 50% off or more.  I find it so hard to decorate with red!  Maybe because I have so much white and black in my house that it just can’t handle the boldness of red?!  Does anyone else have this problem?  How do you decorate for Valentine’s?  I need some help!

Sarah and I have some fun ideas coming up to make this day a little extra special, fun and thrifty.  Stay tuned :)

I Love This Bookcase!

Wednesday, February 2nd, 2011

Stumbled upon this pic while browsing Lonny magazine.  Isn’t it fabulous?  I can picture a bookcase like this in my future laundry room, organizing clothes and linens.  I think it would be pretty amazing!  It would also be great in a craft room.

For a similar and smaller version Sar and I both have the Expedit Bookcase from Ikea.  Starting at only $39.99 this series is pretty hard to beat.  It has incredibly deep shelves, allowing for ample storage in the back and for prettier items up front.  It is so easy to mix it up and is guaranteed to add visual interest to any room.

Deal Alert: Possibly free Tiny Prints Valentines card

Tuesday, February 1st, 2011

I just spied this deal on hip2save and thought I’d give it a go. I’ve never been on tiny prints site before but there’s lots of cute cards to choose from, with the option of personalizing inside which I just la la love.

I quickly chose out a card for Brock, customized and added a photo, I entered the code FREELOVE at checkout and got my card totally for FREE…whoot whoot!!! Now this deal was for TODAY ONLY, for the first 5,000, and my order went though perfectly.
However, as I was logging out I noticed their banner saying “Our Free Valentine’s Day Cards Went Fast! But You Can Still Get Them for $1.49 enter code: GCLOVE”.

I’d say go see if you can still get one for free, if not pay the $1.49 it’s still a fantastic deal for a lovely personalized card. Good luck, and let me know how it goes.
