Did I tell you guys that Brad was sworn in a few weeks ago? Alas, he is an official attorney, my new nickname for him is “Mr. Esquire”. It has been one long year…finishing up his JD/MBA, studying and passing the bar, and now trying to find full-time employment. I am beyond proud of him, he has worked so hard!
For me, it has been a year of trying to be patient! I am SO ready to move on from this chapter of our lives. Work has been particularly stressful the last few weeks and Brad has been so sweet asking me before I leave for the day if there’s anything he can do for me. Okay, I may have asked him to find a full-time job a few times, but aside from that there’s always something to do around here…
Laundry…check. Costco…check, Christmas shopping…check, fruit salad for baby shower…check, picking up dinner…check, prepping our lesson for church…check.
The man has been amazing. He’s almost making me want to go get my masters degree and be a career woman…and let Brad stay home with the munchkins. Don’t get too excited honey, I said ALMOST.
So thanks Bradley for being kind and for helping me enjoy this phase of our lives, and if anyone knows of anyone needing a JD/MBA/Patent Agent please let me know! ;)
Just when I thought my love of Mr. Buble was maxed out..look what I found:
Love the mix of wooden doors, retro brick fireplace, and modern tile floor.
Well Michael, once again you’ve taken my breath away.

This week Amazon has slashed their magazine prices. Lots of my favorites are crazy prices, the only hitch is that they have an auto-renewal after one year, which you can opt out at any time via their magazine subscription manager. Our mum loves to send a subscription of her current favorite magazines to us as a little present, we think this is a great gift idea for Christmas (wrap up the current issue with a gift notification card inside). My favorite deals right now:
My heart skips a beat when I find House Beautiful in my mailbox. Packed with design from cover to cover, even the advertisements are fun to look at. Favorite feature: kitchen of the month and bathroom of the month, which are always incredible and inspiring.
Country Living is hands down my favorite magazine right now. It makes me dream of a cottage in the country and a more organic lifestyle. Favorite feature: Making a Country Living, which spotlights a entrepreneur company of something simple and beautiful such as luscious soaps and eco-friendly cleaning products.
Elle Decor $5
Glamorous, chic and contemporary. There is always something in each Elle Decor to take my breath away!
This magazine has always seemed a little old school and traditional for my taste, but this cover is screaming to me to look inside and buy a subscription. Do any of you have a current subscription? How do feel about it?
Prices are available now through December 3rd. Thanks Amazon, I am very thankful for your magazine sale :)
There’s a couple of great coupons I wanted to share with you all, that could help you score some mega deals on Black Friday.
First, the Hallmark coupon good for $5 off a $10 purchase. Simply like them on facebook HERE, and print coupon (click the back button once you’ve printed, to get another coupon). I also found this coupon in my Martha Stewart Living Magazine + Country Living this month. Last year I spent these coupons on plaid gift wrap, this year I purchased ten 99 cent cards for only $5!
Next, Bath and Body Work coupon found HERE good for a free item (up to $13) when you spend $10. You can use this with any in store or online promotions, I’m sure you’ll be spoiled for choice.
Last year I printed off a few extra coupons and gave them to fellow shoppers, it was a great way to spread some holiday cheer without costing me anything, and the recipients were delighted:)
This year I’m planning on getting THIS Mentha Body Wash for free, a great little addition to the hubs stocking don’t ya think?
Let us know how you spend your coupons, and as always Happy Shopping!
(Deals spied on Hip2Save…thanks!)
I wrapped my first gifts today, and I had to share coz they’re soooo teeny tiny and adorable.
I should have shot something next to them so you get the scale, they’re only 1″ x 1.5″. Boxes are 4 cents from Xpedx, and the baker’s twine is from Martha’s line at Joanne’s on sale for $3.49 HERE, tag punch is from there too.
*Correction: the boxes are 40 cents!
Black Friday is a huge shopping day for us, but you won’t see us at the shops at midnight or any earlier than 9 am for that matter. In the past, we’ve found the door busters to be a bust, and would much rather enjoy more sleep and score our deals later on.
Here are our tips for a successful day at the shops:
NO.1 LIST MAKING: It’s absolutely essential that you know what you’re shopping for, that way you won’t over spend on items you don’t want or need just because they’re a good deal. Sites like Blackfriday.com already post store ads, that way you can browse at home days in advance.
NO. 2 GAME PLAN: Sketch out a schedule of when to hit what shops. Generally, we like to shop our faves first then go from there. Also, we’ve found that the “divide and conquer approach” works great. Meaning separate from your shopping parters, hit different departments and even different stores, that way you’ll cover more ground in less time.
NO.3 BE PREPARED: Eat before you head out, bring water, good shoes, and even pain killers! It can be crazy out there, trust me you don’t want to face the crowds with a headache and a bad attitude :)
Our goal is always to get in and get out without it taking the whole day. In the past I’ve purchased things at Target that I know will be on sale a couple of days in advanced, so I simply have to go in and get my price adjustment and call it good. This post over at Hip2Save has a great overview on different store polices etc.
One more tip: Keep in mind you don’t have to just be buying for Christmas, take this oppertunity to stock up on upcoming birthdays or even Valentines day, (see our post HERE).
We hope you find our suggestions helpful…now go plan!
Talking of hot drinks…last night I saw an ad on the telly advertizing Starbucks sweet deal starting today. Simply visit your local Starbucks between 2pm and 5pm, November 17-20th and buy one holiday drink and get the second for FREE.
I’ll be ordering the Peppermint Hot Chocolate with a dollop of cream, of course!
(For more details click HERE.)
Being Britt’s we’re used to drinking hot beverages all year long, but now the weather is much colder it becomes more of a need than a luxury.
Em has been exploring the world of Twinings Tea, and recommend a few faves. I love this Citrus, Cinnamon & Spices flavor, with a couple of Anna’s Orange thins. Both of these brands can be found at most grocery stores, but I’ve noticed the cookies are the cheapest at Ikea.
Pero (Caro in the UK) and Digestive Biscuits are my families all time classic combo. I can’t even imagine how many servings I’ve had in my lifetime, there’s even stories of my mum putting pero in our bottles when we were toddlers! Pero, again can be found in most stores, but the Digestives are harder to find, (we shop at World Market for ours).
All these treats have relatively few calories, so go ahead…make new pals this season!
Sarah and I are DYING over the luxury faux fur line at Restoration Hardware this season…fur real, hehehe. We have never felt faux fur feel so real, soft and inviting. Winter would sure be a lot more welcome in our house with a few of these products in the home (hint, hint husbands).
50″x60″ throw $79 (orig $99)
pillow covers $29 (originally $39)
hot water bottles $29 (orig $39)
slippers $19 (orig $39)
So warm and cozy right? Make sure to ask about their lovely complimentary gift wrapping too, so chic!
For the past few years when autumn hits I want everything to be gray. My house, my clothes, my purses. I try to ignore this impulse, I really don’t being surrounded in gray will be good for me, especially in the winter when everything outside is dull and gray. I’m finding it awfully hard to resist when I stumble upon things like this:
Do you guys ever battle over gray in your house? I am in love with these pictures and am totally torn over the color! Happy Monday everyone, hope you have a wonderful week!
Nothing screams autumn more than a scrumptious caramel apple from Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory. These things are insane and a little deceptive, as they make you feel that what you are eating is slightly healthy. An apple doesn’t count when it’s covered in hundreds of calories. Oh, well occasionally you have to spoil yourself, and the ones you love :) We think these make perfect little presents, especially for those people that are hard to buy for.
For example, our brothers LOVE getting these for their B-Days, I think they are perfect for co-workers, and just a great little gift for any occasion. Make sure to ask them for $.25 wrapping of cellophane, ribbon or twine, and gift bag, so they are all ready to hand out.
Em: Rocky Road: Caramel, walnuts, marshmallow, milk and white chocolate! Decadent people!
Sar: English Toffee: Caramel, almonds, toffee, and milk chocolate. Amaze-balls.
Oh and don’t forget to ask for a punch card. Most stores have these, a few don’t. Rocky Mountain is a franchise so it depends on the owner.
Our family celebrated Thanksgiving for the first time almost 17 years ago; since then we’ve looked forward to it every year and have become accustomed to pumpkin pie and sweet potato casserole. It’s such a heartwarming holiday…everything warm and heart felt, simple and traditional, we love it.
This year our place settings we were inspired by the fabric Em scored at a mega deal (see HERE), and decided to go with the simple approach. A scrap of leather with a feather serves as a napkin ring, while glass thrift store finds double as candle holders and water glasses, then we just added a gourd, nuts and a gold monogram found HERE.
Cozy don’t you think? Bring on the turkey!
There are so many of you getting married this season, congrats friends! I thought I would post a few pics found on pinterest to show how autumn is the best time to get married on a tight budget. Wedding decor and flowers are usually a huge chunk of moolah, in the fall all you need are a few natural elements to create a cozy, inviting atmosphere for guests.
A Few Hints:
Mason jars can always be found at thrift stores, they may not all match, but that just adds to the cozy factor.
Burlap and linen can be bought really cheap from JoAnn’s, especially if you sign up for their coupons.
Look out for candle outlets when buying in bulk. We bought all of my wedding candles at For Every Body outlet in Lindon, UT. Tea lights are an effective, inexpensive way to add light. The cheapest place I have found them is Ikea.
Congratulations again everyone, please let Sarah and I know if we can help, we love a good wedding!
It’s that time again…Clinique Bonus time! Isn’t that the cutest bag you’ve ever seen? Find out all about the free gift with $25 purchase HERE. Just in case you don’t need any essentials right now a few ideas for Christmas pressies:
Expert shave set $36.50
Happy Bonus time everyone!!!
Today I received an email too good not to share. It said to go to HERE before November 10th to watch the video, and submit an email address to receive a buy one, get one free entree coupon redeemable until November 15th.
Offers like this don’t come around too often, so I think we’ll take full advantage and eat here this weekend! Hope to see you all there :)
The other day we were both down in Springville visiting our favorite dentist, when snow started to fall. After our appointment we were unmotivated to continue our day of errands, and called in at mum’s for some hot choc to warm us up. When the snow stopped, and the sky looked more inviting we headed out and decided to stop in at Gatehouse No. 1 in Orem to see if they had any Halloween deals, but instead we found a Christmas wonderland!
As soon as we opened the doors, we were hit with warm air, fresh smell of cinnamon, festive music. Immediately I felt the buzz of the Holidays and the excitement that brings. We had a fun hour picking out a couple of decorations (thanks mum!), sipping hot wassail, and nibbling on sweet tooth fairy cupcakes, and we left feeling warm and giddy:)
This whole week, the Gatehouse is welcoming the season with: discounts, giveaways, and decorating classes, (every day at noon till Saturday, see HERE for more details). If you’re ready for the holiday cheer to warm you up, I would defiantly stop by. Enjoy!
