Brad and I are so cramped in our little apartment that there simply isn’t enough for a big tree this year.  I’m trying to add as much festive cheer as possible with garlands, candles, and ornaments.  Last weekend I visited the lovely Brambles and Blossoms in Provo, UT and found some paperwhite bulbs.  My parents grow paperwhites every Christmas so I thought it would be perfect in the apartment to make me feel more Christmas-y.

I was pleasantly surprised when the bulbs were wrapped in cellophane and twine, they were so cute I had to buy a few for Sarah.

This would be such a cute gift for neighbors,  just add a little gift tag.

Or make cute little muslin bags like this:

Oh, I’m so excited for them to grow! Apparently, paperwhites are pretty resilient and foolproof making them even more perfect for gifts.  Do you guys love paperwhites at Christmas?  Any ideas or growing tips that you’ve come across?

Hi Em, you should have no problem growing them, just add a little water each day so that the roots can reach down for the moisture – avoid having the bulbs being sat in water, they may rot. They will grow very quickly, ours after a couple of weeks, are almost at the full height with thick buds just waiting to open, the anticipation is wonderful.

Always buy the biggest bulbs you can get – the ones from Brambles this year have been great.

I really like the idea of using these paperwhites in multiple containers lined up on the mantle or table. My daughter’s Manhattan apartment is small, but she has a fireplace and plenty of windows. I agree, this would be a great way to add a Christmas touch to her small space. Thanks for the idea. :)
