Birthday Loot

Wednesday, February 29th, 2012

Now that I’m officially officially in my 30’s, I can’t say I’ve looked forward to my Birthday’s as much as I have in the past.

However, logging into my inbox this month has been pleasantly surprising with all the birthday offers many companies are offering these days. It’s reminding me that birthdays are a nice excuse to celebrate, and to go out and have fun, and more importantly treat yourself well.

Here are my top favorite Birthday Freebies:

No.1 Tucano’s: Join their birthday club HERE  and they’ll send you a post card for a free meal with purchase at the beginning of your birthday month, (good anytime during the month). This year we used it for our Valentine’s date night, Mr Faubus was a happy camper with that feast, for half price :)

No.2 World Market: Sign up to be a world market explorer HERE. Along with sending you offers almost weekly, I received a $10 in store credit coupon to treat myself to a little something something.

No.3 Brio: I just discovered this offer while planning my birthday lunch last week. I stubbled upon their email list (join HERE) and within a day I received a coupon for a free beef entree on my birthday week, plus a free bruschetta starter just of signing up. I’ve only eaten here once, and it was REALLY yummy. I’m so excited for lunch right now!

No.4 Five Star BBQ: If you live in Utah County I’m sure you’ve heard of 5 Star BBQ (link HERE). They make a mean brisket sandwich, and to die for pork (I’m a BBQ loving Britt thanks for sure). When you sign up for their birthday club in store, they send you a buy one get one, via email. It’s a must stop.

No. 5 Rubios: Join their beach club HERE, and receive specials throughout the year including a free burrito for your birthday. I love the grilled chile-lime wild salmon burrito….so good.

No.6 Starbucks: Sign up for their rewards program (see HERE) and get a free drink on your birthday. Love that mine’s in February when a yummy hot chocolate to your day can make all the difference :)

So there we are, my fave birthday freebies. I know there are many more, what are your faves?

Target Tuesday: Basic White Dinnerware Collection

Tuesday, February 28th, 2012

Target has revamped its white dining collection..woot woot! Now I really have a reason to need that white hutch we blogged about yesterday.

NO. 1 on cuteness factor goes to this adorable porcelain milk bottle. Not sure how practical for actual milk but maybe for chocolate milk or to use as a vase? Ok, apparently I’m not quite sure what I’d use it for, but I’m sure I’d think of something. $9.99 in store or $15.99 for two online.

Next up is this bread basket. It reminds me of these ones from Williams-Sonoma, and is something I have always dreamed of for Easter Sunday. It also comes in a variety of colors and is only $16.99.

Lastly, is this adorable salad plate. I know a few ladies who would like to lunch on this pretty little plate! Alternatively, it’s scalloped edges make it definitely wall worthy. $3.99 in stores only.

Alright, seriously…now I just need that lovely white hutch already because I’ve found all the things I want displayed in it! Are any of these taking your fancy? Any ideas for that milk bottle?

Magazine Monday: March

Monday, February 27th, 2012

First up we have an exciting announcement…

Sarah’s been invited to be a contributor over at Lil Luna! Her first post is today, where she’ll be sharing her painted wallpaper project. Be sure to go check it out HERE.

This month we were both a little disappointed with our magazine reading. What is it with March? However, we did find a few little tidbits to share – hope you enjoy!

Sarah’s Finds:

I was surprised this month when Parents Magazine arrived at my door. I have no idea where it came from, but I enjoyed the read nonetheless. Even though I have no kiddies, I am planning on babysitting my sweet nephews for the next 10 days, so I thought the reading might come in useful anyhow :)

Their “Best Blog Awards 2012″ article led me to some fantastic mommy blogs; but my favorite find was written by a daddy, Made By Joel. As an artist and stay-at-home dad, I’m sure he leads a pretty busy life, but still he manages to create some pretty awesome, yet simple crafts with supplies you’ll find already in your home.

Check out this flipping adorable miniature cityscape. It’s adorable. Although he has his printables all ready to share with us, I’m kinda tempted to make a personalized one of our huge family for all the little kidlets. A cute, thrifty gift don’t you think?

Next up is a sweet find from Good Housekeeping. Wooser + Prince’s emery boards found at Parkside Papers, $5 for three. I simply fell in love with the fresh patterns, and thought how lovely it would be to file with these…I’m so ready for spring!

Emily’s Finds:

This month my favorite magazine picks are from House Beautiful. This picturesque courtyard made me smile.  It is simply stunning and makes me dream of having casual dinners with friends and family…outside!

This white hutch is absolute perfection. I am hoping for one someday.

I am beyond obsessed with gold right now…I am pinning like mad gold + gray, gold + black, gold + anything, and now I’m going to be pinning gold + green.

Green with a hint of gold really is so romantic. Lastly my favorite pick from Country Living this month is this bathroom featuring a lovely dressing area.  Heck yes I’ll take a couch and armoire in the bathroom.

Happy magazine Monday everyone, have a lovely day!

Brown Dining Table + White Chairs

Friday, February 24th, 2012

One of our good friends just bought her first house, and is expecting twin baby girls any day now. As you can imagine she has her hands full, so she asked us to keep our eye out for a dining room table and chair set, and I fell in love with this combo and its CRAZY price.

The table is from Pottery Barn (link HERE), it’s on sale from $699 to $299. Chairs are from Walmart (link HERE) and are only $39! Both of these items ship to your nearest store for free, so before tax the table and 6 chairs come to only $533….AMAZEBALLS :)

I know a lot of people imagine a real “matchy matchy” set when it comes to the dining area, but remember the chairs and table don’t have to be purchased together. Mixing things up, can really add a sense of character to your space, and make it look more like a cozy home instead of a show-house. This combo of a darker table with white chairs really adds a nice contrast to the room.

But case you’re still not sold on the two tone look, take a look at these:

Are you as in love as I am?

Hollar Dollar: Sally’s Beauty Supply Make-up

Thursday, February 23rd, 2012

Last week I went to Sally’s Beauty Supply to pick up my beloved Argan oil (cheaper version of Moroccan oil).  While I was waiting in line at the register I saw a stand with Sally’s brand make-up. Blushers, eyeshadow, lip glosses and more all for $.99.

I haven’t really tried any dollar make-up since my wet n’ wild days in middle school, so I thought it was time to give it another try.

For one dollar each, I’m pretty impressed. I am especially happy with the bronzer that has helped give my February ‘lack of luster’ skin a little glow. So to my frugal friends out there, I give Sally’s make-up a thumbs up. Let me know what you think of it.

Pottery Barn Candlesticks at Target

Tuesday, February 21st, 2012

Sometimes when I have a gander around Pottery Barn I lust after all the pretty white candle pillars. If I had a million dollars…I could easily spend a few on these pretty glass candlesticks:

I literally gasped out loud when I found them on a recent trip to Target:

Oh Target how I love you…now I just need an excuse to buy them.

(Sorry for bad picture, I was shopping solo without my professional photographer, Sarah).

So if any of you have been dying over these at Pottery Barn like you can snatch them up at your local Target!

PS. Happy Pancake Day! Click HERE for our English pancake recipe.

Happy Presidents’ Day!

Monday, February 20th, 2012

I love the idea of an old portrait hanging above a fireplace, especially of an historical figure you admire. It adds such a sense for warmth and character to a home.

Although, I’m thinking more in a library, not in a living room. I dont’ think I’d mind Washington watching me when I’m reading a good book or browsing through family albums, but I think it’d be weird to have him watch Real Housewives with me, as I don’t think he’d be a fan. :)

We hope you get to spend it relaxing with loved ones. x

Gift Idea: Pottery Barn Engravable Business Card Holder + Ikat Pillow Covers

Friday, February 17th, 2012

Last night I decided to go online to see if there were any crazy deals coming up for President’s Day.  I found one indeed…

Both Sarah and I adore these silver Business card holders and love giving them as gifts. They are perfect for both ‘hard-to-buy-for’ men and for almost any woman. They are sometimes hard to find (not always available at PB) and can be pricey.  They are currently on clearance for $2.99!  Woot, woot!!!  They are also eligible for free shipping, but are a final sale item so you can not return them.

It is also fun to personalize them to make for an extra special gift.  PB charges a whopping $7, but I’m sure you could find someone locally for cheaper. I think it would be really sweet just to have three small initials in the lower right corner.

I also found these red Ikat Bolster Cover (11.99) and Euro Sham ($14.99) on clearance:

You know how much we change around our pillow covers to update our homes.  It is so affordable and can give your look a whole new feel.  Nothing is more ‘now’ than a bold, Ikat print and you honestly couldn’t buy the fabric for this price!

What are you shopping for this President’s Day? Any bargains to share?

Deal Alert: Major Sale at Nordstrom Rack

Thursday, February 16th, 2012

Yesterday we ventured into the Nordstrom Rack in Sugarhouse to see if their advertised sale was any good. The Rack is very hit and miss, so it’s always good to go in there with low expectations, but usually we leave pleasantly surprised.

Lucky for us yesterday was particularly fantastic, as a lot of their stock was indeed marked 75% off  or more. As you can imagine, it was hard to resist not going totally out of control, but we both left with some key items for our closets.

For me, I FINALLY found a quality pair of affordable ridding boots (remember my post HERE). They’re Ecco’s Hobart Boot, so you know they’re extremely comfortable with a Ecco tag! Anyhow, they were reduced from $216 to $83 that’s about 61% off. Still a little more than what I was wanting but honestly people I’ve been looking for over a year and never found a boot of this quality, price and fit, so it was a necessary purchase :) Plus, it made me feel great to see they are still $216 HERE.

I also scored a very cute sweater for $9.90 down from $66 (85% off), there was a TON of sweaters around this price, so great to stock up for next year.

WARNING TO MEN: if there’s any of you still reading, the following paragraph contains feminine information!

My best deal of the day was a bra from my favorite bra company Chantelle, you don’t even want to know what I’ve paid in the past, so let’s just say it felt a bit like Christmas morning scoring one for $10…holler!

(FYI on the bra’s, I’m sure you’ve all seen or heard of Oprah’s Bra Intervention see a video clip HERE, well all I have to say is that Oprah’s right, go to Nordstrom and get fitted, but MY advice is to then wait for a great sale or keep your eye’s out at the Rack, once you’re educated on fit and find a great brand you can find amazeballs deals.)

Lastly, you can find some of these great deals on the Rack Online, but most of the prices are around 60% off.

I spotted this duffel coat Em blogged about HERE, it’s now down from$198 to $79.97. They also have some similar down from $74 to $29 that I’m thinking of trying, see HERE.

As always, remember shipping and returns at Nordstrom is always FREE, this will come in very handy when the Orem store closes in less than a month, boo :(

Holler Dollar: Hot Chocolate Mugs

Wednesday, February 15th, 2012

At the Dollar Tree yesterday I spotted this Irish Coffee Mug; I love the way hot chocolate looks in these, so festive, and inviting.

I thought they’d make a really cute gift, perhaps in a basket with some gourmet hot chocy, and some yummy cookies. Too cute don’t you think?

Happy Valentine’s Day: Pretty Pinks

Tuesday, February 14th, 2012

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!  Today is the perfect day to celebrate one of my favorite colors..oh so pretty, pale pink.

How can you beat a simple white box tied with a satin pink bow:

Or a cute little girl with big pink bow:

Hopefully sometime soon I’ll have a little girl who will allow an obnoxiously massive bow on her head, at least for a picture…

…until then I’m enjoying Valentine’s with just the two of us :)

Hope you all have a wonderful day!

Home Inspiration: Grasscloth Walls

Monday, February 13th, 2012

I am DYING over grasscloth walls, I need them in every single room of my house…

KITCHEN: The neutral grasscloth walls really help tie in the wooden chairs and counter top.  Really adds warmth to all that white and steel on the cabinet wall.

Entry: Dramatic and cozy makes a nice welcome home and an impact when guests arrive.

DINING ROOM: Love this pale blue grasscloth.  Adds sophistication and calmness…I would never want to leave this room.

Master:  The grain in this particular grassgloth is amazing.  Makes the room feel like the outdoors.

STUDY: Oh my, black grasscloth! Masculine and minimalistic.

BATHROOM: Would really make you feel cozy and warm on a cold February morning.

Are you as convinced as me? Do any of you have any experience with grasscloth? It looks like hard work to put up, but worth it? Or in reality would my dream of grasscloth really be a nightmare?

Cadbury Chocolate Fingers at Walmart

Friday, February 10th, 2012

Good morning everyone! I have a chocolately secret to share…the other day while I was doing my dreaded monthly visit to Walmart I spotted a gem, Cadbury Chocolate Fingers all the way from England.

I couldn’t believe my eyes, and it got even better when I saw the price tag, only $1.25 a bag, that’s even cheaper than buying them over there.

I’ve been back twice since, is it crazy that I’m now finding Walmart way more doable?

A Tour of the HGTV Dream Home!

Thursday, February 9th, 2012

As we mentioned on Monday, this weekend I had the chance to go in to the HGTV Dream House!  I was so excited to get inside and feel the place out.  Today I thought I’d share my top five list of this amazing home.

No.1 Windows, Windows, Windows!

The first thing I noticed when entering the dream house was the abundance of windows. I could tell immediately that the whole house has been designed around the views of the beautiful Heber valley.  Every single room has as many windows as possible, with insane views, truly making the house one in a million:

No.2 Layout

The floor plan of the home is very unique.  In fact, I haven’t seen anything quite like it.  It has definitely been designed as a luxurious vacation home, and makes me think of how a five star Bed & Breakfast should be.  The three bedrooms of the home are divided by stairs and wings of the home, brought together by the kitchen and great room.  So different and fun.

No.3 Size

To be honest, the home seems a lot smaller than it looks.  There is no massive space and the home is decked out to the nines, making every room seem cozy and livable…just as a cozy mountain home should be. This was my favorite room in the house:

The picture does not do the room justice! The pale aqua of the room makes it so serene, inviting and perfect. The en suite is equally beautiful:

I just loved how this vanity was not enormous, cozy and still highly functional.

No.4 Kitchen

Hands down the kitchen was amazing. My favorite thing in the whole house?  Matching sub-zero fridge and freezer:

Aren’t they beautiful?! Perfect for entertaining a large family.

After seeing this kitchen I am totally converted to quartz countertops.  They looked so clean and perfect and apparently are indestructible…perfect for me.

Oh, and those open drawers in the island? More fridges for beverages..holler.

No. 5 Garage

Heated garage with chandeliers…need I say more? When the tour led us to the garage I was thinking why? But then I realized.  A heated garage decked with chandeliers and a brand spanking new, shiny, black luxury that I could get very used to :)

It was all stunning and such a blast to look around. Here’s to hoping I’ll win! Make sure you’re entering to win it all…only a few days left to enter!

Valentine’s Marshmallow Heart

Wednesday, February 8th, 2012

Last night I was watching Pregnant in Heels reruns, and thought I’d pull out the marshmallows again.

This time I used some floral wire and made a heart. I added a black ribbon which all of a sudden made it look very dramatic…I’m quite pleased.

Deal Alert: Tiny Prints Customized Valentine’s Card 99¢

Tuesday, February 7th, 2012

Giving cards is a tradition that my family really embraces. These days I see the tradition being pushed away, much like the handwritten letter. While posting on well wishes on someone’s Facebook is very convenient, it is hardly a substitute for a well chosen card and a thoughtful sentence or two.

Ever since I discovered Tiny Prints last year I’ve had the best of both worlds. Their website is amazing and sends you notifications when you have an upcoming birthday, anniversary or holiday. There’s always a huge selection of cards to choose from, but best of all there’s always an option to customize with a photograph, how personal is that?!

And I’m also happy to report that the cards are more lovely in person, printed on a lovely, silky, thick card stock. Here’s the one I ordered for the Hubs this Valentine’s.

I have more good news: TODAY only they are offering any of their Valentine’s selection for only 99¢, just enter code DODVDAY at checkout. You’ll receive free shipping if you have it sent to you not the receiver, or just pay 44¢ (the price of a stamp) to have it shipped directly to them.

At this price it’s a great way to sample what they have to offer, and I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.

Lazy Weekend Extended and a Dream House Tour

Monday, February 6th, 2012

Happy Monday everyone, we hope you all had a lovely weekend. We were lucky and spent it with friends and family in Midway. We ate too much, laughed a lot and even enjoyed a good football game.

While we were up there, of course we had to check in on the dream home, and were pleasantly surprised to see that they are now hosting tours…Em will be reporting her thoughts on this later this week, but for now CLICK HERE to make reservations, if you’re interested in going yourself.

As for us, we’ve decided to keep the weekend going, eating lots of leftovers and dreaming of watching the big game in the Dream House family room next year!

I’ll get around to it…

Friday, February 3rd, 2012

Do you have projects around the house that you just don’t get to? I have many. These mostly small tasks seem to stare me in the face for quite sometime, before I actually get around to doing them; and the bigger the task the bigger the stare! The mental capacity of putting off a task can often be worse than actually doing the task itself. So I have to ask myself…why do I put things off?

Of course there are the usual reasons: time, energy, other responsibilities and distractions, but lets be honest, some of these projects would take five minutes tops.

Yesterday I cleaned my office, not just cleaned but organized to the point that I gave myself a headache. The result is amazeballs! Instead of a room full of clutter, everything is put in it’s place, and that creates a feeling of order and peace.

One of the small side tasks I did, was sharpen all my pencils that have been sitting on my desk for over a year, it’s been a little source of aggravation every time I grab one by accident when I go to write something, but now I am freed from that process! And it literally took five minutes from my day.

Anyhow, I thought I’d set you all a challenge this weekend…

Do one thing that has been bugging you. It can be as small as sharpening a few pencils, or as large as sorting out a whole room; whatever the size I promise it’ll make you feel great, and make your life just a little bit less hectic :) Let me know how you go on.

Deals Alert: Dwell Studio Napkins + Swaddle Blankets

Thursday, February 2nd, 2012

We know we’ve already done one Target post this week but we can’t help but share this week’s finds. We have both been wanting these napkins by Dwell Studio since before Christmas:

They are finally on clearance in store for $4.98!

Em is saving hers for the future abode, Sar is of course getting crafty and making cushions covers from them ($2.50 per cover). Hopefully they’ll turn out as cute as these Dwell pillows:

Also, on our Target radar this week ares these aden + anais swaddle wraps:

These muslin blankets are all the rage right now and we’re all aboard.  We love how huge and thin these swaddlers are..perfect for layering.  Yes, the pretty factor helps too, both pink and blue are adorable.

This week they are only $25 for a 4-pack,  in store and online.  The pink set is $69.99 at Amazon right now, so we are thinking $25 is a pretty great deal!
