Draper House: Thrift Cafe Chairs

Nobody five years ago would guess that now one of my favorite things to do is to scour a thrift shop. What can I say, living on a strict budget as newlyweds made me get creative, and the high from finding something fantastic for a only a few bucks is hard to beat!

In decorating I am all about mixing the highs with the lows. I splurge on only a few items and then save big time on the rest.

Nothing too much will change to this approach with the new Draper house and I am on the hunt…

It is a rarity to find a full set of anything at a thrift store, so I literally gasped out loud when I saw 12 cafe chairs last week!

I snatched 8 up immediately and even negotiated my way into getting them for $4 each!

Cafe chairs are all the rage and it seems as though they are everywhere; Restoration Hardware, and Crate & Barrel just to name a few. I have been loving these curvy chairs and am so excited to have found some!

The chairs have been cleaned and sanded, are in the not-so-fun process of being primed with an oil-based primer, and are almost ready to paint. I decided I wanted a mis-matched look of dark wood and white before I even found the chairs, so now I just need to decide on which color:

dark table + white chairs

or…white table + dark chairs

I know that last picture is just white table clothes, but ya get the idea. I am leaning towards the white table with dark chairs.

We are still waiting for permits to be approved with Draper City before the builder can break ground on the house but it should only be a few more weeks. I think I’m a little too ahead of myself, huh?!

Good news though, is that all of the design options have been finalized and I will be sharing them with you soon. Oh, and let’s not forget the longer the construction time, the longer I have to find some more thrifty treasures!

Do you like a good thrift store hunt or are you totally grossed out at the thought?

Steal of a deal! White or dark wood doesn’t seem to matter, both look great.

You should have bought the other four!!!!!

I agree with Terri. I thought the same thing. See if they still have the other 4. You can never have too many chairs. They will be great when more company comes but can be tucked away in the corner of any office, etc. Choose a table color you want regardless of the chair color. Then if you get sick of the chairs and want a change later. You still have a table that matches the look you want for your kitchen. So exciting! Wahoo!

Emily, Congrats on such a find. That’s a substantial piece (or pieces) off your check list. And I wanted to tell you – you write the sweetest thank you notes. And Thanks for doing all my dishes Sunday night, it really made a difference on my Monday.

Wow, amazing find!! I love bend wood chairs. Classic. :)

Very cool. I kind of like the white chairs (which I’m sure are harder to wash than a white table cloth)

I LOVE the cafe chairs! I actually have 4 cafe chairs that I bought off of KSL and I love them. I have a wood table and chose to paint them black and had cushions made for them with red ticking stripe. I love the eclectic look of the mixed materials. I think either way would look amazing. Go with your gut!
