Deal Altert: Em’s Favorite Hangers

Friday, May 31st, 2013

When velvet hangers first made their debut I wasn’t exactly thrilled at their aesthetics, it’s hard to beat some pretty wooden hangers. However, when I first tried Costco’s velvet hangers for the first time I was 100% converted.

Not only do they hold your clothes so nicely and snugly, they save so much space in my closet, and look better than expected too. Now my closet is full of the black beauties…

If you haven’t tried them yet, now is your chance as they are on major sale at Costco.

$7.99 for 35 hangers at your local Costco until June 9th!

Cheapo Sunglasses

Thursday, May 30th, 2013

Em prefers her designer shades, but I’m such a fan of cheapo sunglasses. I like how stress-free they are, and it doesn’t matter if they get lost or scratched.

Plus they are so fun to switch out with different outfits, or plant in different locations. There’s always a pair in my glove box, and by my keys.

These are a few I’ve had my eyes on this season:

So which theory do you favor: one designer, or lots of cheapos?

Em’s Kitchen

Wednesday, May 29th, 2013

Today I am excited to show you our new kitchen! We’ve tackled a few projects in our first month so thought it was time to share. I mostly love our kitchen because it sits bang in the middle of the house, I’m so excited to make it extra special and be the gathering place in our home.

Our first project were the pendant lights. I searched the internet and local stores high and low for pendants at a reasonable price. I eventually found Hinkley Lighting and these lovely pendants. Unfortunately, the brass has been discontinued, but I found them on Ebay for $75 each! They are great quality and we are really happy with them. Thanks Brad and Scott for hanging them for me.

The next project was hardware. Most people think I’m crazy for loving brass, but I figure hardware is something you can easily change if you tire, but I have a feeling I won’t! We found these Martha Stewart drawer and cabinet pulls that were really inexpensive. I love the shiny metal against the dark cabinets.

The kitchen has come a long way from this, but I am secretly pinning a few more ideas…I would love to add a major dose of glossy subway tile like this someday:

Kimberly’s Baby Girl Shower

Tuesday, May 28th, 2013

Last week we threw our sis-in-law, Kimberly a small baby shower. With four boisterous boys, we are thrilled Kimberly is having a girl for her last baby.

We kept the party very simple with just a few decorations and of course some very delicious food.

We found a pink, orange and yellow petal wrapping paper at Target and decided to theme our shower around it…very “spring-y” and girly. For decor, we decided to wrap her presents in coordinating colors for a simple display. We also hung a few Chinese lanterns and pom-poms for a festive entrance.

Kimberly’s eyes say it all…we think she’s excited to be having a girl too :)

I’m sure Baby Catherine will win all of our hearts, but for now her big brother, Teddy has us totally smitten.

We also kept the food very girly with fruit, an over-the-top salad, a variety of Mum’s quiches and Sarah’s legendary lemon buns and meringues.

Such a fun afternoon with some great ladies.

Congratulations Dan, Kimberly and boys, we can’t wait to meet your little baby girl xxx

DIY Easy Patriotic Banner from Scraps

Monday, May 27th, 2013

HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY!

We hope you’re having a relaxing day will those you love! Today we’re sharing an easy peasy project that you could whip up in no time.

When we were cleaning up from making the patriotic napkins, we thought our scrap paper looked kinda cute. So we made a simple banner by just hanging them on twine with mini cloths pegs.

The black and white is a modern twist on patriotic decorations, but still feels festive with the stars and stripes.

Oh how I love easy free projects! This would be a fun to involve kids too. :)
