Design Dilemma: Bed Shopping

We recently purchased a king mattress set for our master bedroom and now it’s time for a new bed! I am going back and forth a lot with deciding what I want and weighing up cost etc. Here are my favorite options:

No. 1 Classic Wooden Bed

Classic and timeless, I do love theway a wooden bed looks. Downside is a wooden headboard…not too comfy.

No. 2 Upholstered Headboard

An upholstered headboard paired with a basic metal frame and bedskirt is the most affordable option.

No. 3 Upholstered Bed

A full upholstered bed oozes comfort and luxury to me, but costs a significantly more than just a headboard.

Ahhh, I love them all. It’s hard to weigh up aesthetics/comfort/affordability. I need your vote please!

If you/husband are tall, buying a bed with a footboard may be a problem. At least be aware of the shape of the footboard. Ours has a curve to it and has been a bit of an irritation. Also the headboard/skirt route is easier to make.

All of these are beautiful! If I were to choose an upholstered headboard, I think I might just make it myself. I’ve reupholstered a couch before (A LOT of work!), and a headboard seems like it would be a cinch and quite inexpensive to make. I was just looking up upholstery projects on Pinterest yesterday and spotted several great tutorials when I searched for “upholstered headboards diy.” Good luck!

I have been looking for a bed/headboard also. I’m loving upholstered ones right now. Not just a headboard but the entire bed. I love that you don’t have to use a dust ruffle, so.it looks nice and neat. I’m just looking for a full size though. I have found many that I love on the Joss & Main site. All the beds I’ve been interested in are all handmade in the USA! Love that. I think the process are great. For a full they are anywhere from $4 to $6 hundred dollars. Good luck finding what you love!

We currently have an upholstered headboard with frame and bed skirt. I hate it for two reasons: the wheeled feet of the frame are on weird places. Even after 6.5 years I still jam my toes on it when folding laundry or picking up baby or making the bed. The second is the unruly bedside that never seems to stay in place. We’re going fully upholstered when we upgrade!

I stub my toes on the metal frame too. Hate that. I complete bed is the way to go. Not just a headboard.

I am all for the classic wood frame. I think you can comfy it up with lots of pillows, quilts and throws!

I LOVE my upholstered bed – have had it for two years now. http://m.homedecorators.com/h5/pdp?path=%2FP%2FCustom_Concord_Upholstered_Bed%2F20%2F590%2F – it’s made by Skyline and is sometimes on OKL or J&M. I waited until Home Decorators did their Black Friday or 12 days of Christmas sale and got for either 40 or 50% off. I have king in Linen Sand. I really wanted Colette from Crate and Barrel but am now glad I saved the $$ with this one. Only possible drawback is that you can’t use under-bed storage boxes but that may not be a big deal for you. I originally feared I wouldn’t like the feet but they aren’t noticable in real life.

Good luck! It’s a big decision.
