Mini Makeover: Making My Living Room Kid Friendly!

I’m such a neutral-color-lover when it comes to my house, my clothes and even my car; but now that kids are on the seen, color is a must. Instead of trying to hide it, I’m slowly trying to embrace this new era, and delighting in the fact this living room isn’t just mine anymore!

Kid-proofing my bookcase was on my list of things to do this week, since the girlies are now on their feet. All breakables have been moved to new heights, and the bookcase that always catches their attention is now home to baskets of toys and a diaper station.

Adding a ‘pop’ of color with my favorite books on the top shelf, helps blend in the color of the toys, and makes it look more intentional.

These durable baskets were a find from DI (local thrift shop), they’ve be perfect for housing the smaller toys. The metal structure has proved to be extremely kid-friendly, and still is intact after many many hours of abuse!

A pretty glass container can turn everyday objects into something special. These are toys I grab when I’m running out of the house, a little something for them to play with in the car.

I really enjoyed this little exercise of making something functional and pretty. Never would I have thought I’d have a pair of red shoes on my bookcase, but we’re all happy how it turned out.

Any tips and tricks from you mummy’s. Do share!

PS. Nanny, don’t worry the bookcase is also anchored to the wall, safety first!
