Holler Dollar: Pill Box

Wednesday, June 19th, 2013

This pill box in the Target Dollar Spot really caught my eye, and I’ve already found it uber helpful to have in my glovebox. It’s also available in yellow and hot pink, but this teal green was my fave. :)

Holler Dollar: Sea Salt Sweet Potato Chips

Friday, April 26th, 2013

I used to be grossed out about food from the Dollar Tree, but since I’ve been stopping in there more regularly I see the stock gets turned over really fast it’s all new and fresh.

Snack items are my fave to pick up, especially pretzels. The other day I spied these, and thought I’d give them a whirl.

The verdict is in; they are ubber yummy and a steal for a dollar…holler!!!

Today we’d filled our caffeine quota before noon, yikes!!! Later, we stopped by Sonic, so I could introduce Em to my new treat, their lime slush…YUM!

Their slushies and drinks are half off at happy hour (between 2-4 daily), so this little bad boy was just under a buck (for a medium). It’s so refreshing!

I was delighted when I found my favorite dish soap in miniature version in the Target dollar aisle. Why is everything so much cuter smaller?

Perfect for a kitchenette, outside kitchen, camping pack, guest quarters, or wherever…I am in love.

Holler Dollar: Dust Pan & Brush Cleaning Tip

Thursday, February 21st, 2013

Did you guys ever watch Jon & Kate plus 8? We did, and loved it for quite a while (until things started heading south).

Anyhow, Kate used a dust pan and brush to sweep her counters before wiping then down. I think it’s pretty much one of the best ideas ever, and have adopted it into my cleaning routine.

Of course you need a designated set for the job, mine is from the dollar section at Target, but they have them all over the place for about a $1. Mine hangs on a hook at the side of my bar, and everyone knows it’s strictly for counters only!

Holler Dollar: Best Tweezers Ever!

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2013

boxwood clippings_holler dollar

We haven’t done a holler dollar in over a month, have you guys noticed that many stores have upped their prices in their dollar sections? We’re not impressed.

However I eventually found a good buck to blog about…these Sally Hansen ‘Little Details’ tweezers have been my fave for years, but I’ve recently had a hard time finding them in my usual stores. I was ridiculously excited when I found them at the Dollar Tree, and for only a dollar…holler! (Usually $4)

These are a must for any makeup bag and possibly the best dollar you’ll ever spend!

Holler Dollar: Window Pane Mirror

Monday, December 3rd, 2012

On our last trip to the the Dollar Tree, I was ecstatic when I found these gold mirrors. The wheels starting turning for all the possibilities for these mirrors in the new house, but for now we’ve decided to go extra glamorous in apartment #17 for Christmas with a large window-pane mirror.

I heart this $700 window-pane mirror from Pottery Barn, but am equally loving the $12 similar mirror I created by hanging each mirror with a command strip in a window-pane pattern.

I am loving the result! It was so easy it was to hang, as each mirror is very light-weight, and loving how the mirror makes such a statement for $12!!!

If you don’t love the gold, the silver has a lovely matte finish and the black is classic. I am dreaming of this mirror hung above a mantle or above a desk. Fantastic for the money right?

Holler Dollar: Tissues

Thursday, November 1st, 2012

At the check out the other day (at Target) these fun patterns caught my eye. I’m a big sucker for packaging in general, but with boring items like tissues a fun design can really help my necessary item feel more like a spurge, and that’s kinda fun!

Are you a sucker for good packaging? I know I’m not alone!

Holler Dollar: Drawer Liners

Thursday, October 25th, 2012

The other day we had a very successful visit to the Dollar Tree we spent $28 which never happens. Christmas is almost in the air and we were feeling it!

But for now, on this cold Autumn day I treated myself to some new drawer liners. This lining was only $1 for 1.5 yards, enough to line four drawers (I used 2.5 rolls total).

The classic floral black and white print, matched perfectly with my traditional dresser. There’s something a little luxurious  about this project, I can’t pin point what it is…but for $3 I know I’m loving it!

Holler Dollar: Best Comb Ever!

Wednesday, October 3rd, 2012

I must say my mummy and sissies have locks to envy. But I’ve noticed this takes a little more work than my tie it in a elastic approach. They have a little touch up throughout the day with this little baby.

This detangles and volumes, without your hair becoming a nest. I’m a recent convert, and now that they’re in the $1 section at Target, you can be too…Holler!!!

Holler Dollar: Target’s new Loot

Friday, September 21st, 2012

Look what Target has in it’s new dollar section:

Too many goodies to share, so go check them out yourself!

Holler Dollar: Foam Brushes

Wednesday, August 29th, 2012

It’s been forever since we’ve done a holler dollar, and I’ve really missed it. I’ve been keeping my eye’s peeled for the best dollar in town, but it wasn’t until yesterday that I found one.

This week at Michael’s these foam paint brushes are 20 for $1!

These are great little brushes, and at this price they’re cheap enough to throw away when you’re finished, so it makes for a very easy clean up.

Hurry in if you like this deal, as it’s only good thru September 1st!

Holler Dollar: Gift Bags

Thursday, June 14th, 2012

A few weeks away from Target and it’s like Christmas morning all over again..oohing and ahhing over all the new merchandise.

On my last visit I was happy to discover these small gift bags in the dollor section:

Two bags for one dollar! Perfect for Father’s Day, any summer occasion and even for autumn or Halloween with the addition of brown or black tissue paper.

Holler Dollar + Local Love: Thanksgiving Point Ice Cream

Wednesday, May 30th, 2012

Thanksgiving Point is known for a lot of things, like: weddings, the gardens, or the dinosaur museum. But what you may not know, is that it has the most affordable ice cream in town.

A cup of soft serve is only 50¢, then the additional toppings are 25¢ and 15¢ depending. My favorite combo is vanilla ice cream, caramel sauce, heath bar, and it’s only 90¢ total! Em’s go-to is chocolate ice cream, hot fudge sauce, and reeces cups, also 90¢.

The only downside is, that it’s impossible to resist…so we often don’t!

Holler Dollar: Patriotic Cupcake Linners

Thursday, May 24th, 2012

There’s something very Americana about summer. It must be all the patriotic holidays.

Red, White and Blue can be found all over the place this time of year, and cupcakes should be no exception! These liners and decorative flags are from the Dollar Tree. That’s right; they were only a dollar for a pack of 24 pairs…holler!

Don’t you think it makes the cupcake extra cheeky?

Along with Memorial Day and the 4th of July, these also might come in handy for the Olympic Games. I’d love to get a hold of some Union Jack ones–anyone seen any?

PS. I finally got around to making THIS recipe I’d pinned ages ago. Banana cupcakes and cream cheese frosting…yum yum! :)

Organization Tip: Sterilite 6 Quart Storage Box

Tuesday, May 1st, 2012

Today we are happy to share a fantastic organization tip.

$1 storage boxes from Sterilite. We use them in almost every organization project we tackle and are pretty much obsessed with them…

In our opinion they are the greatest ‘Holler Dollar’, bang for your buck item you could ever buy to instantly bring order into your home. They are absolutely perfect to corral small items from batteries and hardware to bows and toys.

Hello organized craft cupboard!

armelleblog.com

They are also fantastic to streamline a closet. Shoes, belts, jewelry, anything.

bhg.com

We have zero storage space in our bathroom so I keep extra makeup, toothpaste etc in my closet. I just organized them into these boxes and am so happy with the result. They stack perfectly on my closet shelf and I glammed them up with gold brackets from the Martha Stewart Avery line at Staples.

My next project is going to be our electronic cords that are ALL over the house. I always think I will remember which cord goes to my brand new camera but I never do! I am hoping for a result like this:

apartmentthearpy.com

We find our $1 Sterilite’s at Walmart or Big Lots. Other stores carry similar boxes, but we are big advocates of the durability of Sterilite. We recommend you buy just a few boxes every time you are at the store and work on one space in your home at a time.

This way you don’t get overwhelmed, feel satisfied within a few minutes of organizing, and are eager to move on to a different space.

Do you have any place that needs organizing? Give these boxes a try and let us know if you need any help mail[at]boxwoodclippings[dot]com.

Holler Dollar: Ikea Breakfast

Monday, April 9th, 2012

Last week we met up at Ikea to look over some things for a client. We were caught off guard when we arrived before the store had opened; but luckly the cafe was open, so we thought we’d snag a little breakfast while we waited.

For 99 cents you get a plate of bacon, hash browns and eggs. We admit the bacon is not the best, but the hash browns were especially delish.

I also had my Ikea family card which gets me a free tea or coffee with every visit. I traded mine out for a creamy hot chocolate, and you betcha I was a happy lady for breakfast under a buck!

To see if your Ikea offers Ikea family discounts look HERE for more information. You’ll want to sign up for sure if you haven’t already. Their monthly specials are usually pretty good…but more on that later this week. :)

Holler Dollar: Mini Easter Baskets

Monday, March 26th, 2012

As Easter is less than two weeks away, I thought I’d better get thinking about a little treat to pass out at our family dinner.

I’ve had my eye on these favor boxes for a while, and have just been waiting for a perfect reason to get them. They’re located in the baby section of the Dollar Tree, and come in a pack of 8 for a $1…holler!

They come in four colours: blue, green, yellow and pink. I think they make the adorable mini easter baskets don’t you?

I simply stuffed them with a sheet of tissue paper and topped it off with brown grass also from the Dollar Tree. Then filled them with our favorite Easter Chocolates, Cadbury Mini Eggs. It worked out perfectly that they come in the same coordinating colours. And finished with a ribbon.

Now the only problem is not eating them before Easter gets here:)
