Lovely Black Leggings for $5

Wednesday, October 15th, 2014

These days I keep myself pretty low-key until it’s time to leave the door.

It’s kinda a ‘mummy uniform’ and usually entails black leggings and a tee. Simple and comfortable without looking like a Hobo is my goal!

boxwood clippings_$5 leggings

My favorite pair of leggings are actually from Walgreens (link HERE) and are 2 for $10…holler!

For that price it’s way do-able to have several ‘go-to’ pairs for quick changes after these lil’ munchkins get me all messy cakes!

Do you have a go-to look? Do share!

Look For Less Pave Link Bracelet

Thursday, September 18th, 2014

I love a good link bracelet and especially love THIS sparkly one.

My experience with pave and costume jewelry has not been good, eventually one the little stones falls out..so I am opting for THIS way less expensive one.

boxwood clippings_pave bracletA whopping $100 difference in price! Wahoo! Loving this look for less!

The Perfect $10 Blouse

Thursday, August 21st, 2014

For some reason I’m a little embarrassed that I wear black all the time. People always seem to make little comments and challenge me to wear color.

Somehow, despite efforts to branch out, this black beauty arrived on my doorstep this week.

boxwoodclippings_black crepe blouseIt looks pretty simple and basic, but it is perfection in my eyes!

It’s slight boat-neck, loose fit, exposed zipper on the back and lightweight polyester fabric give it a 60’s feel, and I know it is going to be my favorite thing to wear all fall.

And…it was only $10!

Haters will hate, but I still love black!

My first Mommy selfie..uggh. I feel like a poser, but wanted you to see what it looks like in person…right before Jane christened it with spit-up!

Now is the Time to be Buying your Winter Coat!

Thursday, June 5th, 2014

If you’ve been reading our little bloggie here for a while you’ll know we loooove duffel coats. A good duffel is an essential for any wardrobe regardless of age or gender.

The problem is a good quality coat will always cost a pretty penny, so it’s essential we score a deal. The time to shop is now! Right when the last thing you want to be thinking about is a coat!

Last week I ordered this Micheal Kors coat from Nordstrom Rack (that’s right! The Rack online!)

Originally $258 it’s now priced at $100. But I used a $25 off code bringing it down to $75!!!

Here are some others that caught my eye:

This Dale Dressin is down from $375 to $105!

All the coats above still have lots of sizes and colours to choose from, so be sure to go check them out.

Another tips: I always order over $100 to get free shipping, returns can be made instore. :)

Em’s Maternity Clothes Tips

Thursday, May 22nd, 2014

I know a lot of people that manage through their pregnancy with waistbands rolled down and extra large tops. This method did not work for me! Cute maternity clothes are easy to come by and so affordable these days it is worth spending a few bucks to be comfy, especially because I’ll need them for a little while after Jane arrives too.

Here’s a timeline of my maternity purchases:

1. A new bra. This was the first thing thing I needed. Achy shoulders and pulling at your bra for 9 months is no good! This is the most expensive pregnancy item I have purchased but man, is it worth it. You know how much we love Nordstrom! The ladies there are miracle workers at finding the perfect fit for you. It’s hard to imagine until you experience. I ended up purchasing a nursing bra that I’ve been using for most of my pregnancy and will hopefully be a good fit post delivery too!

2. A few basics: Two new pairs of these leggings. I purchased these on 40% off days at Gap and have used them almost every day. So comfy, wash great, can be dressed up or down, and are very long for tall ladies like myself :) I also ordered a few new layering tops, and ordered one size up. These have been great as the bump has grown to still give me the length and coverage I like under my normal blouses.

3. A few go to outfits: I purchased these pants at H&M and a maternity Maxi dress from Old Navy. I wear the pants (which are capris on me!) to work all the time and pair with a loose-fitting blouse, one of my normal blazers (that can’t be buttoned any more) and a pair of flats. The maxi dress has been awesome! It’s such a relief to slip on a dress without any waistband or hemlines to worry about. I wear it by itself or layer with cardigans, blazers or scarfs to mix up the look.

The last thing I want to do right now is take pics while feeling like a whale. So here you have my very awkward go-to outfits.

boxwood clippings_maternity basics

I still have 2 months to go and a lot of baby growing and heat headed our way! I’m glad I’ve invested in just a few pieces to make it comfortably through, although I have warned Brad and neighbors I may be walking around naked before too long. Wish me luck!!!

Nautical at Old Navy

Thursday, April 3rd, 2014

I was thrilled to visit Old Navy last week and see all the looks for spring. Can’t beat Old Navy prices! I have never seen so much nautical in stores and I am loving it!

Winter Survival Wardrobe

Friday, February 7th, 2014

We’re in the thick of winter and only a few things can help prevent utter misery!

Here are a few wardrobe essentials that help me through…

boxwoodclippings_nordstrom pea coatnordstrom.com

Coats: I try to have two coats in my closet. One casual with down, and one more formal that’s usually wool or a wool blend. I always stick to neutral colors so they go with everything. TX Maxx and Nordstrom Rack are my best friends for great quality coats at good prices. Right now department stores such as Nordstrom and Macys have major discounts on coats. I am in love with this one at Nordies.  Do you have a special place for coat shopping?

Boots: Winter boots are so worth the investment. Because you only wear them a number of days of the year they last forever. I love my sorrels and Hunters equally for snow days. My knock-off uggs have been great for every day errands. Look out for major deals, clearance time for boots is now!

Socks: Extra thick sock are a must. Manly themal socks like these are perfect to layer over leggings around the house or under boots on extra chilly days.

Gloves: I have accumulated a lot of gloves through the years and truth is I don’t wear most of them. These gloves let me still be functional, are warm and inexpensive. Don’t you hate it when you have a pair of gloves on and you can’t pick anything up or answer your phone? Do you have a specific pair of gloves you love?

Scarves: I may be addicted. I wear one every day of winter. I am dying for this one currently at Gap.

What’s helping you out through these cold months?

Kirkland Shearling Boots

Thursday, October 24th, 2013

I know there are some major Ugg haters out there, but for me a pair of cozy Uggs is like laundry right out of the dryer or a hot bath on a freezing cold day. Literally heaven on earth!

However, I have had to pay a pretty penny for such luxury and have tried on dozens of pairs of knock-offs in hopes of something coming close to Ugg perfection for a fraction of the price.

Nothing ever came remotely close, until I discovered these Kirkland 100% Austrailian shearling boots.

boxwoodclippings_kirkland shearling boots

I did a test run and wore my normal uggs on one foot and the Kirkland brand on the other. I looked ridiculous walking up and down the aisles in Costco, but this was important! Honestly, I couldn’t even tell the difference between the two brands and at $39.99 I ran out of that store with a massive grin on my face and a new pair of boots.

So if you’re an Ugg fan like me, you may want to snatch up a pair or two for 80% off the brand price. Can I hear a holler?!!!

Falling For Black and White

Wednesday, September 4th, 2013

I couldn’t be happier that the leaves are turning orange and the stores are full of black and white!

Black and white has never been so big!! Some may think it’s boring, but I say this combo is classy and timeless.

Here are a few things I’m loving right now in my little world of affordable fashion…

I picked this top up last week at BR for 40% off.

Screen shot 2013-08-31 at 1.40.57 PMRugby Stripe Top

It fits perfectly and is the perfect weight for warm fall days or to layer on cooler days.

I also got this studio tee which is the perfect weight to wear under blazers for fall.

This aztec b+w pencil skirt is only $20 and would be perfect paired with a light sweater.

This $4 polka dot make-up bag may as well join the b+w party too :)

Deal Altert: Great Boot Sale Now at Sundance Outlet

Wednesday, June 12th, 2013

It’s hard to visualize freezing temperatures in this sweltering heat, but winter once again will show it’s face in just about 4 months (at least here in UT).

Yesterday we purchased these Sorel Boots at the Sundance outlet in SLC for only $45 (including tax), down from $150. The same boots on Amazon are still going for $132 and $89, which confirms what a great deal this actually is!

boxwood clippings_sorel boots

The boots which were originally priced at $150, were marked down to $89.99, then $74.99 and now marked at $59.99, BUT now through the end of June there’s an extra 30% off all their shoes, accessories and men’s clothing, making their final price $44.89 including tax.

If you’re interested, be sure to act fast. The selection was pretty stocked yesterday especically with larger sizes, but it’s sure to dwindle pretty fast with prices like these.

Good luck, and be sure to let us know of your great finds. :)

Cheapo Sunglasses

Thursday, May 30th, 2013

Em prefers her designer shades, but I’m such a fan of cheapo sunglasses. I like how stress-free they are, and it doesn’t matter if they get lost or scratched.

Plus they are so fun to switch out with different outfits, or plant in different locations. There’s always a pair in my glove box, and by my keys.

These are a few I’ve had my eyes on this season:

[Charlotte Russe ones found HERE / Target ones HERE / Forever 21 ones HERE.]

So which theory do you favor: one designer, or lots of cheapos?

Budgeting for a Successful Wardrobe

Wednesday, May 8th, 2013

There is no question that no matter the budget most people are disappointed in their closets. Here are a few tips that have helped us have semi-decent wardrobes through tight financial years.

First: Everyday, Neutral Basics

boxwoodclippings_neutral basics

Black leggings, two pairs of great fitting jeans, two black tees…two white…narrow down your weekly basic wardrobe and spend your money maintaining basics before anything else. You’ll always feel and look great if you have an awesome pair of jeans. Make sure to sign up for emails from your basic clothing brands so you know of sales, coupons etc. Shade Clothing, Old Navy and Gap are a few of our favorites for basics.

Second: Seasonal and Colorful Accessories

boxwoodclippings_colorful necklace

We add color and fun to our outfits mostly through scarves, jewelry and shoes. Accessories are the perfect way to keep up with current trends, and requires only a small budget. Target and Charlotte Russe are our go-to shops for affordable accessories. See here, here and here.

Buy Out of Season

boxwoodclippings_enzo angiolini boots

The best shopping deals usually come at the end of the season. If you wore out your boots this winter, now is the best time to get a steal. I just bought a similar pair to these Enzo Angiolini leather boots at Macy’s for $30.

Shop Discount Stores

If you’re a shopper like us and often feel the urge to hit the shops try the thrift store, Nordstrom Rack, TJ Maxx instead. You’ll have to hunt for a good find, and get a thrill from spending a fraction of what you normally would. Em’s coat was one of her all-time favorite Rack finds!

If You Don’t Love it, Don’t Buy it!

If you don’t love it, don’t buy it! It doesn’t matter if it has 95% off the original ticket, guaranteed you won’t wear it if it doesn’t both look and feel great…trust us on this one and save your pennies!

Patience is a Virtue

We are big believers in if you fall 100% in love with something to buy it. However, make sure to ask yourself how often you will wear it, and what you will wear it with. If your answers are “everyday” and “I could wear this with anything” then it’s probably a good item to invest in. If your answer is “maybe if I ever go on a cruise, or “when I lose ten pounds” run away. Believe us, it is always a good idea to think about a big purchase for a week or so before purchasing.

Support Great Stores

boxwoodclippings_nordstrom gifts

If you can’t wait for for sales and discounts, make sure you are buying from a great store. We love Nordstrom and are happy to pay full-ticket price for a great customer service shopping experience and return policy.

Do you have any tips on budgeting for your wardrobe? We’d love to hear your thoughts! We hope our tips will help you love your wardrobe once and for all!

Little Black Handbag at Amazon

Friday, March 15th, 2013

A little black bag (LBB) is almost as invaluable as a little black dress. It goes with everything…rain or shine:

Hermes or Prada would be nice, but until I win the lottery this LLB may do the job just fine:
