Mini Flower Arrangements

Monday, May 18th, 2015

Happy Monday! We hope you had a lovely weekend and are ready to tackle the week?!

Today we’re sharing the easiest centerpiece idea that can double as a party favor to make any get together a little more special…

We love how these mini arrangements look clustered together as well as how cute they are individually to give as a favor at the end of the evening.

To create this look we bought three bouquets from Walmart for $5 each. We then gathered all our random glass jars. You know the ones…spaghetti sauce, baby food etc jars. You can even just use little plastic cups if you don’t have glass. Then we just clipped the stems and divided between jars…zero floral arranging skills needed!

We made 20 arrangements averaging less than $1 each!

Pretty, thrifty AND organizing our jar cupboard…win, win, win!

Costco Flowers

Wednesday, March 11th, 2015

Isn’t having fresh flowers in the home the absolute best? How can we resist such pretty blooms at such great Costco prices?

Lilies have always been a favorite in our home growing up at Easter. They are a symbol of re-birth, not to mention they smell divine and last forever (no pun intended…hehe).

They should be in the warehouse very soon for $9.99 a bunch!

Do you have a favorite spring flower you are keeping your eyes peeled for?

PS. Here’s a little something we found while helping our Mum sort out her closet. A once forgotten gem! Me and Em visiting with Father Christmas and for some unknown reason was published in our local paper!

Boxwood Plants

Tuesday, June 24th, 2014

I think I’m like most people in the way that I’m in love with things that remind me of my childhood.

When we did our landscaping 7 years ago,

it was no coincidence that we put in boxwood hedges and conifers, just like I had grown up with.

When we were looking for a fresh and simple name for our blog, the boxwood plant leaped to mind.

These images make me fall in love with this simple plant all over again.

They are so versatile. I love how they can be modern or traditional, look homy and exotic.

Do you have a plant you’re emotionally attached too?

Perhaps something you had in your garden growing up?

We’d love to know what your faves are!

Summer Tea Towels

Wednesday, June 11th, 2014

Summer is here and it’s time to pull out all those bright and colorful accessories. One thing I always enjoy is mixing up my tea towels. Isn’t it funny how a little tea towel can brighten your day? I also love giving fun towels as gifts. It’s something everyone always always needs and you don’t have to worry about matching personal taste too much, because it’s just a towel! Here’s a few I think are fun for this time of year:

Loving this vibrant juicing dish towel.

This red classic stripe is perfect for a patriotic summer!

I want this conversion dishtowel framed in my kitchen.

Loving this red and orange combo in these orange slice towels:

What items are you switching in your home for the summer?

Goody Keep It Smooth Hairbrush

Wednesday, April 23rd, 2014

A few weekends ago, we got away to Brad’s parents home in Midway, UT. I inevitably always forget to pack something…this time a hairbrush.

Some girls may be able to go a day without a brush, but this messy head cannot! Off to Walmart I headed, where I picked up the cheapest paddle brush I could find…

boxwoodclippings_$3 goody paddle brushWith my expectations set pretty low on a $4 brush, THIS Goody ‘Keep It Smooth’ hairbrush turned out to be amazing! It tames my tangled mess of a head way better than my more expensive paddle brush that I’ve been using for many years and is only $3 online!

So if any of you are less than thrilled with your current brush (or need an extra to keep stowed in your overnight bag), give this $3 brush a try!

Miniature Cupcake Birthday Cake

Friday, February 28th, 2014

We always get a little nervous when baking birthday cakes. What if the cake sticks for some reason or starts to sag on one side? It’s a lot of pressure to make a perfect birthday cake! Which lead us to the miniture cupcake birthday cake…

Miniature Cupcake Birthday Cake

We love cupcakes, but we love even more bite-size, mini cupcakes. There is zero pressure as you can just present the ones that work out perfectly on pretty cakestands with a candle in each one. The more cupcakes and candles the merrier!

We are celebrating lots of candles on Sarah’s birthday cake today!!!  Just kidding, sis ;)

Happy Birthday Sarah! You are crazy talented, beautiful and hilarious. I love you and I’m so lucky to have you as a sister xxx

Red Board on Pinterest

Tuesday, February 11th, 2014

Our sissy, Hels Bells has always been the one to rock the red.

We are never quite as keen. Why is it that you either seem to love this colour or hate it? Recently I’ve been seeing the joys this vibrant colour can bring, and enjoying and bold ‘pop’ here and there.

How do these images make you feel? Are you in love?

Bath & Body Works: Black Currant & Vanilla Products

Thursday, January 30th, 2014

You all know how we love to switch out our scents for the season. Well I must say, I look forward to February for many reasons and one of those reasons is an excuses to use this fragrance from Bath and Body works.

Typically, there’s no red our house, but for Valentine’s I make an exception, and add bits from this line that is sooo yummy. Black currant and Vanilla is the perfect blend of fresh and cozy, honestly I don’t know why they call it ‘sensual’, it has me falling asleep!

boxwood clippings_bath & body works black currant vanilla products

For whatever reason this scent doesn’t have as many products as the other aromatherapy ones, but enjoy what you can. The sugar scrub and wall flower are my absolute faves.

Right now, many of their products are on sale for $8 down from $13, so be sure to go check them out HERE, just in time for the month of love!

Easy Homemade Dinner To-Go

Wednesday, January 8th, 2014

Occasionally we get to help our friends when they’ve had a new baby or are really sick with a homemade meal.

We keep it real simple with these handy take-out tins from wally-world, which cost only $.97 for a pack of three. No need for a busy family to worry about returning dishes and pans. They also have a similar 3-pack at The Dollar Tree.

For this meal we made an easy lasagne, side salad and apple crumble. Lasagne is for sure our first choice for meals to go. It can be heated up in oven/microwave in a snap, tastes just as good re-heated, and can be easily accommodated to food allergies and preferences.

Do you have a signature dish you’re known for?

Christmas at Bath and Body Works

Thursday, November 21st, 2013

I cannot wait to have little kiddos at Christmas to help them dream of sugar-plums and be filled with the Christmas spirit.

Our sis, Helen always gets her kids excited for Christmas by adding a Bath and Body Works nightlight and festive soap in their bathrooms.

Whether or not you have kids at home just an item or two from Bath and Body Works will bring instant Christmas joy into your home:

Bath and Body Works will be having one of their best sales of the year on black Friday. This is when I stock up on my favorites for the year and be on the look out for gift ideas and stocking-stuffers.

I love the True Blue Spa, C O Bigelow and Aromatherapy lines for gifts and these are the perfect little stocking-stuffers that can loop on to anything and hopefully keep your family healthy too.

As always, coupons always make shopping even better! For a $10 off $30 purchase coupon (can be used in-store and online) click HERE.

Worth the Splurge: Petunia Pickle Bottom Makeup Bag

Thursday, September 19th, 2013

For as long as I can remember I’ve used Clinque free gift-with-bonus bags for my makeup. Usually they’re pretty cute, so it’s nothing to complain about.

Even before my recent pregnancy, we’d often visit the baby department at Nordies and it was on one of these visits we fell for the Petunia Pickle Bottom cosmetic bags, something about their bold patterns and colour choices really made me want one, and I’ve LOVED  it.

We even think they’re cuter than their main product the diaper bag, and at $28 I think it’s a worth the splurge everyone should indulge in.

Gingham Style

Thursday, August 8th, 2013

What do you think of when you hear gingham?

I think of grannies and babies and everyone in between. It’s both traditional and modern, new world and old. It’s a pattern that will never age or season, and I’m totally in love with it’s versatility.

Some of my favorite products right now, rocking the look:

No.1 Storage Bin, No.2 Milk Jug, No.3 Ribbon, No.4 Tie, No.5 Bib, No.6 Binky, No. 7 Pillow, No. 8 Rug.

That tie is making it’s way to Brock’s stocking. And nope, it’s never too early to start the Christmas shopping!

Little Beauties: Caldrea Soaps

Wednesday, May 15th, 2013

Our kind friends over at Caldrea sent us a couple of samples to try, and boy did I fall in love with their Blackcurrant Mint.

Blackcurrant is a favorite flavor of the British Isles, so the smell brings me back to my childhood summer days. Isn’t it funny how scents can have that reminiscent effect? I feel an extra bounce in my step with every hand wash!

boxwood clippings_caldrea

If you want to see how England smells to me, pick up a bottle. Even better, they’re on sale at Target this week, $6.79 for the hand soap and $5.09 for the dish.

Plus I just adore the packaging, blue fits right in with my kitchen decor! Do you ever buy such products on looks alone?

Mother’s Day Reminder

Friday, May 10th, 2013

Just a little reminder to tell your mum and all your special ladies how much you love and appreciate them this Sunday and always.

boxwood clippings_flowers

Of course flowers always help spread the message too.  These beautiful hydrangeas are from Trader Joes and only $6.99, can you believe that? They are my very favorite flower.

Mummy Clayton you are one heck of a lady, and the best role model we could ask for. We love you very much, and think you are amazeballs!

5 Ways to Use Clothes Pegs

Monday, May 6th, 2013

I’ve always loved clothes pegs, maybe because I loved washing day when mum would hang the yummy smelling laundry out on the line, (ha, sometimes when I tell stories of my childhood Brock asks me what century I grew up in!). Anyhow, these are super versicle little tools, here’s how they I like to put them to use.

As a place setting:

Helping to organize my ribbon ends:

As a label for my plants:

As a tag on a gift:

A pack of these run about $1…holler, I can’t think of any think more handy for that price.
