The Easiest Way to make a Ginger Bread House

Thursday, December 22nd, 2016

If you’re looking something fun and festive to do we have the best idea…

Gingerbread houses made from just two ingredients: graham crackers and chocolate!

boxwood clippings | easy white gingerbread-house
Graham crackers are one thousand times easier than trying to make your own gingerbread and getting your angles perfectly straight and chocolate is so much easier to work with than icing.

The best part is your house is made in five minutes and then you can really get to the fun of decorating!

We used a bread knife to cut our graham crackers and simply melted white chocolate in a Ziploc bag in the microwave.

It’s time to bring out your inner Buddy the Elf and get to work :)

Sarah’s Christmas Living Room

Friday, December 16th, 2016

I can’t believe it’s only 9 days until Christmas and I haven’t shared my living room yet! One of the great benefits of having a fake tree is that I can set it up early, so I’ve literally been enjoying it for more than a month already!

The girlies (as I’ve said before) are getting really into all the different holidays and things that change around the house. Last year I didn’t dare put up a full size tree, they were just at that age where they were into everything. This year to try and prevent them touching it I built a wall of boxes around the bottom to create some distance, it’s worked like a charm!

Like we shared last year (see HERE), I gave my clearance fake tree a bit of a makeover with some spray paint. I just love how it gives a hint of flocked but still has a lot of green coming through.

I always look forward to stores getting in their Christmas goodies, yes…even if it is September! Although I have bins of decorations, I still like to buy one or two items each year to add to my collection. This year it was THIS garland from Target which now has 30% off!

I’ve loved adding some lights on the other side of the room with this garland and nativity.

I do miss having a real tree, and we’ll go back to that in the future, but for now bits of fresh greenery here and there will have to make do!

My mother-in-law gifted me THIS nativity the first Christmas we were married, I’m still in love eleven years later and hope I will be for a lifetime!

Thanks for visiting my festive living room, I hope you enjoyed it!

Merry Christmas!

Sarah’s Winter Bedroom

Tuesday, December 13th, 2016

For many it may not be worth while to decorate their bedroom for the holidays, but my bedroom is a central part of the house; lots of TV watching, book reading and laundry folding going on here. The light is so great that it’s often my favorite room to spend time in, and definitely my go-to heaven while the girls take their nap.

Our bed is from Pottery Barn, and I often switch out having the top bars on or not. It’s much cozier with them on, so for winter it’s perfect and a great frame for adding a lit garland.

These oversized pinecones help make the corners pop. Topped off with a bit of white paint to mimic snow, and a few sprigs and ribbons from Hobby Lobby.

This ‘Merry Christmas’ garland was one of my first decorations I purchased after we were married 11 years ago. It looks great where ever I hang it, I only wish the colors hadn’t faded with time.

A seasonal accent pillow and winter greenery are always nice.

My winter retreat is my favorite place on earth!

Hope you enjoyed visiting, I’m off to bed!

Gift Idea: Hot Chocolate + Chocolate Spoons!

Monday, December 12th, 2016

One of the best things about winter is hot chocolate. A canister of your favorite hot cocoa is an easy and lovely gift to give this time of year, and you can make it extra special by making your own chocolate spoons.

TO MAKE:

spoon mold HERE (Orson Gygi is currently sold out)
milk chocolate snaps HERE
white chocolate snaps HERE
favorite toppings

These spoons are so easy and fun to make! First, melt chocolate snaps and pour into spoon molds. We would recommend buying two molds to speed up the process if you want to make a lot.

Once chocolate is poured, freeze for 5 minutes. Then comes the only slightly tricky part of the process, popping the spoons out of the mold. It takes a little coaxing, but 9/10 times the spoons pop out easily.

Next, dip the end of each spoon in melted chocolate and garnish with a favorite topping…we used English toffee chips and crushed peppermint and also drizzled some in more chocolate. You could do really fun and festive sprinkles too. Rest on parchment paper until chocolate sets.

We used THESE pretzel cellophane bags and THIS ‘Merry Christmas’ ribbon to wrap up the spoons.

We adore how these turned out!
The perfect family gift to give, and a great activity to make with your kids too!

Blush, Navy and Gold Gift Wrap

Friday, December 9th, 2016

There was not a chance we were going to let the season go by without featuring the Sugar Paper wrapping line for Target this year!

Aren’t these wrapping papers all just gorgeous? If you’re looking for a wow factor with your gift wrapping this year, look no further! All you need is something simple to finish each one off, the beautiful wrapping speaks for itself.

For an even easier wrapping option we paired brown craft bags with THIS gorgeous tissue paper. We love the scalloped edge!

THESE round gift boxes are our absolute favorite from the product line. We wish we could wrap every single gift in them!

Wrapping all those gifts for Christmas just got a whole lot more fun. We’re hoping to carve in a little time this weekend to put on a Christmas movie and get started on wrapping!

Happy wrapping everyone xxx
