Gift Wrap: Pink and Gold for Valentines

Monday, January 12th, 2015

We always try extra-hard to anticipate special events and holidays during the winter months…we need something to look forward to!

Here’s a little pink and gold wrapping inspiration we’ve created to get us excited for Valentine’s Day!

We pulled a few gold sprigs and wrapping paper from our Christmas supplies and added it to our pink and white supplies. The fabric blush flower was a hair clip we found on clearance at Claire’s for .$50 and the gold heart is a pendant from an old necklace.

Ha! Now we can’t wait to start making plans for the month of looove!! How about you?

Valentine’s Day Table Setting

Tuesday, February 4th, 2014

Every February, our sis-in-law Kimberly throws a Valentine’s dinner for our family. Her kids get so excited and we all make little Valentine’s for each other. Kimberly goes all out with setting the table, and always makes an amazing meal. Now we all look forward this event every year. I love the idea of making a bigger deal out of little holidays (especially in the winter months)!!!

I decided to get a little festive in our dining room by pulling out red and pink party decor and buying a few heart balloons from The Dollar Tree.

This literally took about 10 minutes and no effort at all. It’s amazing how just pulling a few pieces out and spending a few minutes can make an ordinary day feel extra special. Happy love month everyone!!!

Worth the Splurge: Etsy Valentine Cards

Monday, February 3rd, 2014

I am a hopeless romantic, so I love a cheeky Valentine’s card. It’s one of the only times of the year to formally celebrate love, so even though pretty letter-pressed and handmade cards can cost a little more and you have to pay for shipping, I say it’s well worth the little extra!

I usually am too late to order from Etsy by the time I think about Valentine’s, so I thought I’d post this extra early to let you see a few clever cards that we can all order with time to spare for v-day.

Bath & Body Works: Black Currant & Vanilla Products

Thursday, January 30th, 2014

You all know how we love to switch out our scents for the season. Well I must say, I look forward to February for many reasons and one of those reasons is an excuses to use this fragrance from Bath and Body works.

Typically, there’s no red our house, but for Valentine’s I make an exception, and add bits from this line that is sooo yummy. Black currant and Vanilla is the perfect blend of fresh and cozy, honestly I don’t know why they call it ‘sensual’, it has me falling asleep!

For whatever reason this scent doesn’t have as many products as the other aromatherapy ones, but enjoy what you can. The sugar scrub and wall flower are my absolute faves.

Right now, many of their products are on sale for $8 down from $13, so be sure to go check them out HERE, just in time for the month of love!

Valentine’s Day Wish-list

Tuesday, January 28th, 2014

Thank goodness for something wonderful in February! I look forward to the month of love every winter. Here’s a few things I am dreaming about…

boxwood clippings_valentine's wish list

1. Robe: This ‘sweet love and yonderflies’ robe from Pretty Plum Sugar is just the ticket to take me out of the winter blues. Feminine and romantic is just what I need!

2. Cream Blush: My skin is lacking a lot of luster as of late. This multiple stick from Nars is supposed to bring an automatic ‘dewy’ look to any wind-blown face.

3. Scent: This perfume is one of my every day favorites right now, cannot beat that price tag!

4. Flowers: Cliche for V-day, I know but I appreciate flowers in the winter months more than any other time of year. Bringing beautiful blooms inside in the depth of winter does something wonderful for the soul. Time to treat ourselves to a bunch from Costco I think :)

5. Earrings: Sometimes I just need a new pair of earrings to feel like a new woman. These studs are classic, sparkly and a steal…three of my favorite things.

6. Superbalm: I wore this on our wedding day and always make a point of wearing it for Valentine’s and our anniversary to remind me of our special day. Perfect for winter chapped lips.

This would be my perfect recipe for prepping for Valentine’s day this year. What are you dreaming about this January?

DIY Abstract Valentine Cards

Tuesday, January 21st, 2014

We are in a hurry around here to get lots of things done before Sarah’s babies get here! Sarah had the most brilliant idea for the fastest and most original Valentine’s cards.

DIY Abstract Valentine Cards

We simply lay card stock onto scrap paper and started swirling around craft paint.

DIY Abstract Valentine Cards

With no paint brushes required, we had a blast making a mess with pink and metallic paints.

DIY Abstract Valentine Cards

We let them dry overnight and then folded them in half for a simple card.

DIY Abstract Valentine Cards

We love how these turned out, all that texture and sheen!

Best of all these were so inexpensive and only took only 2 minutes!!! We think kids would absolutely love this project, easy enough for a two year old, fun enough for a 14-year old!

Chocolate-Dipped Strawberries

Thursday, February 14th, 2013

Last Saturday night, in prep for Kimberly’s annual Valentine’s dinner I was prepping chocolate dipped strawberries for the family and had the greatest time. That’s right, just me + strawberries + chocolate :)

In the kitchen I often get to thinking…not too many distractions, and for some reason repetitive tasks such as cutting up vegetables or dipping strawberries in smooth, glossy chocolate over an extended time really relaxes and de-stresses me (am I ocd?)

boxwood clippings_chocolate strawberries

I was thinking how this year our numbers would be slim as Mum and Dad are in England, as well as Luke (temporarily), and of course our older two brothers and their families who live there permanently. I hate when my parents are out of the country… I feel like a little girl homesick for them, which then leads to missing and thinking about my siblings. This night was no exception and almost every action reminded me of them.

boxwood clippings_old family portrait

Rob: In our kitchen, I keep an old CD player and a sampling of my favorite CD’s. When I play them, it always reminds me of my brother, and his love for music. Plus my favorite CD’s are ones he has given me, classics like Blondie, Johnny Cash and the Proclaimers.

Phil: I always feel like Philip (the chef of our family) when I get my apron on and enjoy making something delicious in the kitchen.

Dan: I thought of Daniel while anticipating our dinner the next day at his house and grateful to him, for his constant efforts of inviting us all over to get our family together.

Hel: I felt like Helen, when somehow ALL of my fingers got covered in chocolate, and I HAD TO lick them before washing them clean. She always looks graceful no matter what, and I am always a clumsy mess.

Sar: I thought of Sarah when I drizzled with chocolate the perfect strawberry. She and Martha Stewart would’ve been proud.

Lukey: I thought of Luke when I sang along (very loudly) to Taylor Swift’s “You Belong with Me”. (Luke, is a huge, 6′ 7″ beast of a man and is so funny when he sings his lungs out to Taylor Swift).

Sammy: When I realized I was having such a good time, I giggled out-loud. Sam, the baby of our family is always giggling to himself.

I had such a fun few hours making these sweet treats and enjoying even more the sweet thoughts of my siblings.

Brothers and sisters, I love when a simple action reminds me of you and how much I love you.

Happy Valentine’s Day

Kid Valentine’s Day from Bloggers

Today we’d like to share a few fab Valentine’s ideas from bloggers designed for the kiddos.

First up is this cute idea from the talented Caroline at Armelle Blog :

Isn’t this adorable? Download the treasure map free printable HERE.

These printables from one charming party are perfect for boys:

There are a lot of super cheesy and embarrassing valentines out there for the boys, but these ones are just “dino-mite”.

Lastly, this simple idea from Paper & Pigtails: valentine

Cute paper bags (like these) + sentiment + yummy content.

“You’re sweet”  with any candy inside the baggie is an easy alternative to this one.

What will your kiddos be dishing out this Valentine’s Day?

Red: The Color of Love (and envy)

Monday, February 4th, 2013

I have tried to be a red person, over and over. Truth? It clashes with my caramel highlights something dreadful. Sarah, with her strawberry-blonde hair also refuses to wear anything pink or red.

Our sister, Helen on the other hand is constantly rocking the red. It compliments her dark brunette hair and porcelain skin perfectly, as well as perfectly accenting her black and white colonial home. She often leaves Sarah and I feeling we lack a little luster…

With the drab, smoggy inversion of Salt Lake City nothing seems more appealing today than a punch of red. Perfect timing for February and Valentines if I do say so…

Passionate, bright, sultry and cheery. Welcome to the month of love…

I have my eye on my favorite anthro latte bowls in the same color:

A Pink, White and Silver Valentines

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2013

Last year I loved my Valentines decorations in my downstairs bath. In fact they ended up being in there wayyy longer than valentines. So this year I decided to stick with the soft pink and just add some white a silver to cool things up a bit.

A couple of easy DIY’s were involved in this:

First the spray painted cinnamon sticks in arranged around the candle.

Second the pink artwork, I simply splashed some craft paint on canvas and played around a bit.

Finally the feathered wreath on mirror, I just hot glued a bunch of feathers on a styrofoam wreath layering as I went.

Other than that, all the decorations are 100% Christmas clearance items. Boy do I love making deals look pretty! What are you’re decorations looking like? Email us a pic we’d love to see!

Gift Idea: Deck of Cards, 52 Things I Love about You

Wednesday, January 16th, 2013

While looking for ideas for ideas for Valentine’s presents this year I stumbled upon this idea from Nicole at Visual Heart. I love the idea of a Valentine being a thoughtful token of love rather than huge, commercial presents, so thought this idea was perfect.

I picked up a deck of cards from the dollar store, a few binder rings at Target, and got to work.

I love this idea, not just for a significant other but for anyone you love. Can’t wait to celebrate the month of love :)

Gift Idea: Valentine Crush

Tuesday, January 15th, 2013

When Sarah gave these presents out for the kiddos, I thought of someone else who would enjoy a little orange fizz. Accompanied with a cheezy saying, it makes a cute little Valentine…

boxwood clippings_crush valentines “I have a crush on you, sweetie pie…”

DYI: Newspaper Hearts on Lights

Wednesday, January 9th, 2013

I always get so sad taking down my Christmas decorations, so this year I went straight to decorating for Valentines.

The fairy lights in our dinning area really cozy up the place, so they’re officially staying till spring. I made these little hearts to dress them up for the season. They’re not only cute, but free to make and very easy!

boxwood clippings_newspaper heart3

Picture 3

If you’d like to make your own, all you’ll need is:

Fairy lights (I use icicle, currently on mega sale everywhere!)

A pair of scissors

An old newspaper or magazine

Marker or pencil

boxwood clippings_newspaper hearts 1

Simply draw your heart shape on newspaper, and cut. I like to do a few pages at a time to make it super fast. Then punch over lights, the paper rips easily since it’s so thin.

This is all I had the energy for on my sick day, hope you guys aren’t feeling yucks! Look after yourselves x.

Happy Valentine’s Day: Pretty Pinks

Tuesday, February 14th, 2012

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!  Today is the perfect day to celebrate one of my favorite colors..oh so pretty, pale pink.

How can you beat a simple white box tied with a satin pink bow:

Or a cute little girl with big pink bow:

Hopefully sometime soon I’ll have a little girl who will allow an obnoxiously massive bow on her head, at least for a picture…

…until then I’m enjoying Valentine’s with just the two of us :)

Hope you all have a wonderful day!
